Description:
Velvet-leaved blueberry (Vaccinium myrtilloides), also known as Canada blueberry is a popular fruit-bearing plant, prized for its tasty blueberries. The plant is also an important part of many ecosystems, providing food and habitat for a variety of wildlife species.
The lowbush blueberry is a short spreading, multi-stemmed shrub. It is commonly found in open, sunny areas such as rocky or sandy areas.
In the spring, Vaccinium angustifolium produces small, pinkish-white flowers that give way to small, dark blue berries in the summer. In addition to being a popular food source for humans, the berries are also an important food source for many wildlife species, including birds, and small mammals.
It is very similar to velvet leaf blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium) but differs in having hairy, velvety leaves and stems. The two are often found together and can sometimes hybridize. However, I'm not sure which one I'd say has the tastier berries.
