Prunella vulgaris ssp. lanceolata, commonly known as Lance Selfheal, is the native subspecies of a common lawn plant that comes from europe. This plant is known for its delicate pink or purple flowers that bloom from mid-spring to early autumn and provide valuable nectar and pollen sources for a variety of pollinators and other beneficial insects. In addition, the species Selfheal aka healall has a long history of use as a medicinal herb as its name suggests, and the leaves and stems of the plant have been used to treat a wide range of ailments, but most notably sore throats as a tea. The North American subspecies is a larger plant, growing about four times or more higher and also having lance shaped leaves, as its name suggests.

Habitat: Lance Selfheal is a species of moist meadows, woods, and shady stream banks, and is well adapted to moist soils. It is also commonly found in pastures and along roadsides.

Sun requirements: Lance Selfheal prefers partial to full shade and will grow in a range of light conditions, from deep shade to bright, sunny areas.

Moisture requirements: This plant is adapted to moist soils and will grow in soils that are constantly moist but not waterlogged. It should not be planted in standing water or soils that are constantly dry.

Soil requirements: Lance Selfheal is adaptable to a range of soils but prefers moist, well-drained soils that are high in organic matter. It will tolerate soils that are neutral to acidic but will not tolerate poorly drained soils.

Height and spread: Lance Selfheal typically reaches a height of 20-50 cm with a spread of 20-30 cm. It spreads by creeping stems and forms colonies over time.
