Description:
With its glossy foliage, large white flowers with pink styles and shiny black berries, Chokeberry is an attractive shrub that is suitable for most gardens. It is quite tolerant of a range of circumstances, though seems to prefer acidic soils.
While the berries are technically edible, they are very astringent and not palatable to people, though sometimes processed into jams or jellies. However, they are excellent for many songbirds.

Habitat: Sand barrens, graniet barrens, bogs, acidic wetlands

Soil requirements: Prefers acidic, such as granite or sand
