Mentha canadensis (Fr: menthe du Canada | En: Canada mint)
Description:
Mentha canadensis or Canada mint, is the only species of mint (Mentha) native to our region. It is identifiable when flowering, as the stem is adorned with clumps of flowers interspersed with leaves, unlike most cultivated mint species which feature all their flowers at the apex.
This mint has an excellent flavour that is similar to peppermint and spearmint, but unique to itself. I use this species for all my mint needs.
It produces small, pale pink to lavender flowers that are a great source of nectar for many pollinators, including bees, flies, and butterflies, making it an ideal addition to any pollinator garden.
