Long-stalked Sedge

Carex pedunculata
Alternative names: Stalked Sedge
French: Carex pédonculé

Long-stalked Sedge is a graceful woodland sedge commonly found in the deciduous forests of the Ottawa Valley. It forms dense clumps of arching, narrow green leaves, adding texture and movement to shaded or semi-shaded garden beds and natural plantings.

This species typically grows 30 to 60 cm tall, and while it tolerates full sun, it does best in part shade with consistent moisture. It thrives in rich, organic soils and makes a great choice for woodland edges, shaded rain gardens, or understorey plantings.

A dependable and attractive sedge, Carex pedunculata is perfect for adding depth and structure to naturalized areas, especially those with a bit of shade and steady moisture.
