French: Anémone du Canada
Canada Anemone is a vigorous native groundcover commonly found in wet meadows and along shorelines. It is well known for its elegant white flowers, which bloom from May to July, and its deeply lobed, attractive foliage.
This species spreads readily through underground rhizomes, allowing it to form dense, low mats that are ideal for naturalizing wet or semi-shaded areas. Although it can be aggressive, it is easily controlled by mowing or by competition from taller plants.
It is especially striking when planted en masse, creating a bright carpet of white blooms in late spring and early summer. Canada Anemone thrives in full sun to part shade, and prefers moderately moist to wet soils, though it adapts to a variety of soil types.
