Description:
While not edible like black elderberry, Red elderberry is a very attractive plant that is worthy of including in many native gardens.
Even early in spring, just after the snow has dissapeared, the redness of the flower buds make this plant quite showy. This continues as the plant develops white flowers and later bright red berries that are excellent nourishment for many songbirds.
Height: 2-4 meters
Habitat: Marshes, wet meadows, riversides, rock barrens flood plains
Sun requirements: Full Sun, part shade
Moisture requirements: Moderate to wet
